Discussion:

When I first started this deck, I am not sure if it was because the competition was not as good, but however, this deck in comparison to its earlier incarnations relies a lot on cards that have fairly low casting costs for a green Commander Deck.  The most expensive creature car cast cost is Eldrazi Conscription, clocking in at 8 mana.  I have gotten rid of several cards that require 8 mana or more, such as Gigantomancer, and Kozilek, Butcher of Truth, and Terastodon.  Depending on how play goes I may bring one or 2 back, but however there once was a time where I was hoping to play cards like It That Betray's and that like most of the others are not coming back at least for no other reason than that it was stolen out of my house.  Likewise, I have also gotten rid of the Elvish Piper because I have no use for it now that I have trimmed my deck down to size, meaning that it no longer has creatures so huge and fat.  Go figure, because when my weight went up, the size of my creatures came down.

However, Thrun really isn't a good enough card that anyone should think to counter him anyway. At least in that way, I would say he is borderline good enough that someone would think about countering him, but obviously such thoughts are futile, as the cards says he can't be countered. The hexproof and the regenerate that he has is pretty cool. I do believe that Thrun makes for being a good Commander. He is one of the cards like Silvos, Rogue Elemental, as a Commander that is excellent for wailing damage on an opponent. I do believe Silvos is better, especially since he costs 1 less mana to regenerate and that he is larger, and that he comes action packed, as a large creature with trample. Despite that, Thrun is very good for going into stealth mode, and going in undercover when mounting an attack on an opponent. Also, Thrun is very similar to Cudgel Troll, and neither card is necessarily better than the other. Both are very good defensive cards, both having regenerate. That Cudgel costs only 1 to regenerate, while Thrun costs 2 is one way Cudgel is better, but that Thrun has hexproof and can't be countered is to his credit.

**** Magic: the Gathering - Llanowar Elves - Magic 2012

A Really Good Card, Especially in Commander., January 19, 2013 There are so many times having an Elf that taps for one mana and costs one mana is useful. This card is a force to be reckoned with because it really isn't worth countering, and yet it works well in so many combination plays. Llanowar Elves was one of the first cards I had in my possession and it is still one of my favorites. If you are playing Commander, other cards to consider that are like this one are Boreal Druid, and Fyndhorn Elves.

Has Certain Special Uses

I like this card for my Momir Vig deck.  Momir Vig isn’t that great of a commander in my opinion.  Momir Vig enables for one to search for a card if he or she plays a green creature, and take a creature card to their hand if a blue creature is played.  Elvish Visionary capitalizes on Momir Vig.  The green ability of Momir enables the search ability.  However, that ability usually isn’t much help as it telegraphs to your opponent what is coming next, so he can plot his strategy accordingly.  The green ability of Momir Vig means that one is not able to take the card to their hand by itself on that turn, usually, but Elvish Visionary throws in a curve by enabling you to take the card that you have just searched for to your hand.  And, since Elvish Visionary doesn’t cost a whole lot of mana, you might even be able to play that card that you searched for on the same turn, especially since a Momir Vig deck works well with elves.  Suddenly, Momir’s mediocre ability becomes actually quite cool with a card like Elvish Visionary.

Review of Iwamori of the Open Fist ** Why did I buy this card?

Is made a reading mistake when I bought this card. I thought it read “put a legendary creature into play,” as in I get to put a legendary creature card into play. However, it is actually “Each opponent may put a legendary creature card in into play.” I, myself, would not get to put an extra legendary creature into play unless some ability said otherwise. Though most players probably wouldn’t have a legendary creature to put into the game, why risk it? Iwamori is not a good enough card to take that kind of risk with. Though it is a 5/5 with trample that only costs 4 mana, which is actually kind of swell, this card is not that great because of its other ability. Also, it doesn’t make a good Commander card because it is easily removed to the graveyard, and needs beefing to do any real damage.

Review of Ayumi, the Last Visitor ** A Mediocre Heavy Hitter With a Nearly Worthless Ability

Ayumi is a 7/3. That makes it a heavy hitter as far as I am concerned. Usually, a good formula for green heavy hitters is that the casting cost should at least be equal to (power/toughness)/2. That would be (7+3)/2=5 . In this case the casting cost of 5 is equal to the power and toughness divided by 2. So, actually it isn’t a very cost effective heavy hitter as far as green is concerned. It is also worthy to not that the better heavy hitters, generally have a toughness of 4 or better. 3 just isn’t enough. That is, I’d rather a 6/4 than a7/3.

Next, let’s look at its ability, “Legendry landwalk.” I am not very experienced at MTG. However, I am one smart dude, which I believes helps qualify me to review this card, and in my opinion legendary lands aren’t common enough to make this ability a good one.
