My Definition of Deck Versions
I know that I often update my decks, especially as I get new ideas.  This led me to create a version system for my MTG blog.  However, previously I was unsure how I would differentiate between say, Version 7.2 and 7.5, in the tenths digit, as well in the unit’s digit.  And, for example, why should I call one deck Version 5.0 and another deck Version 6.0.
Well after pondering this conundrum I came up with a solution that makes me very happy.  That solution is that each time I switch out 1 card, and put another card in its place, the tenth’s digit will increase one tenth.  However, I will start at 1.0, not 0.0.  And, if I switch more than 10 cards, that will result in a change of a single unit.
For example, if I switched out 1 Unnatural Predation, and put in 1 Primal Frenzy, if the original Version that contained that Unnatural Predation was 7.0, then the version with Primal Frenzy as a replacement for Unnatural Predation would be deemed, “Version 7.1,” and so on, such that if 10 cards in total were changed from 7.0, then that would merit that the deck would merit the distinction of Version 8.0.

1st Legacy Deck, Now Titled “Sickness” - Infect/Poison Version 6.0

This deck has 64 cards, and no sideboard.  I understand that some may find that distressing, but I think it is for the best.  This deck now has some kill cards because sometimes that is what is needed.  Really, I was just getting too many pump spells in my hand.  It was overkill.

2nd MTG Mono Green Pauper Deck 1.0 - Heavy On Creatures w/ Defender

The following blog is the most recent update of this deck
http://craig-hamilton-mtg.blogspot.com/2013/07/2nd-mono-green-pauper-deck-20-mana-ramp.html

Creatures With Defender:  15  The main purpose of these creatures with defender is to build up a strong defense that can produce a lot of mana.  Both Overgrown Battlement and Axebane Guardian work off of defenders to produce mana.  In future decks I may decide to add more than just these 8 cards that boost mana by the number of creatures with defender.
4 Overgrown Battlement
4 Axebane Guardian
4 Wall of Vines
2 Steel Wall
Wall of Tanglecord

Creatures Without Defender:  15  So, these creatures are all huge, and there is a reason for that of course, the first being to annihilate my opponent, the second is the premise that I can use mana from my creatures that give mana to cast them.  Please notice that some of them have trample.
Horncaller’s Chant
Timbermaw Larvae
4 Thundering Tanadon
Axebane Stag
4 Yavimaya Wurm
 4 Ulamog’s Crusher

Other Cards: 10 Since this deck relies on having a lot of mana, I thought it would be good to include three Strider Harnesses which can give my huge creatures haste.  Also, the flyer artifacts can give either offense or defense flying, as is needed.
Naturalize
Untamed Might
Nature’s Claim
Cobbled Wings
3 Strider Harness
Kitesail
2 Bladed Pinions

Lands:
20 Forests

Sideboard:
3 Wall of Roots
3 Wall of Tanglecord
3 Untamed Might
3 Naturalize
2 Steel Wall

1 Timbermaw Larvae

***** Khalni Hydra - If you have plenty of small creatures, then cast this card and slam your opponent

For every green creature you have, this card costs 1 mana less to cast.  I play this in my 2nd Legacy mono green deck.  It works great with small mana boosters like Llanowar Elves, where you can use that card to subtract 2 from this cards cost.  This card is slamming, and I think it will work best in your deck if you are able to play it for less than 6 mana, ideally 4 or 5 mana if you got your game on early and are closing in on a win.

2nd Legacy Deck: Mono Green 2.2

This deck is not nearly as competitive as my Legacy Infect deck, but it is still a very good deck.

Creatures

2 Khalni Hydra (new in version 2.0)
4 Dungrove Elder*
4 Llanowar Elves*
4 Sylvan Ranger (This card makes my deck as if I had 22 forests)*
4 Timbermaw Larva*
3 Ambush Viper instead of 1 Ambush Viper (1.0 had only 1 of this card)
2 Elvish Herder*
2 Arbor Elf*
1 Joraga Treespeaker*

Instants

4 Vines of Vastwood*
4 Primal Bellow*

Sorcery

2 Cultivate* (both Cultivate and Kodama’s reach would work well in a side board)
2 Kodama’s Reach (version 1.0 had 1 Kodama’s Reach)  (Cultivate and Kodama’s Reach make it as is I have more than 18 forests, which is good especially with Sylvan Ranger)

Enchantment

4 Gigantiform*

18 Forests

*Denotes that the card(s) were in version 1.0

Side board (newly added to version 2.0, 2.1, 2.2):

2 Gigantomancer
4 Deadly Recluse
4 Naturalize
1 Ambush Viper
2 Might of Oaks
2 Bladed Pinions

This deck is a continuation of the following deck:
http://craig-hamilton-mtg.blogspot.com/2013/04/2nd-legacy-deck-mono-green-10.html

Just in case you were wondering how version 1.0 is different from version 2.2; partly it is different because the following cards have been removed:
2 Deadly Recluse** (nixed)
1 Fyndhorn Elder** (nixed)
1 Boreal Druid** (nixed)
1 Naturalize** (nixed)
**Denotes that the card(s) were nixed from version 1.0

**** Naturalize - Count On This Card To Get Your Mono Green Deck Out Of Dutch

Naturalize has long been a mono green players favorite turn to card.  Sometimes there is an enchantment or artifact that blocks the way, and that is where naturalize comes in.  That is, do not play this card unless it is absolutely necessary, as there are situations where this card is practically the only way of salvation.

**** Primal Bellow - I love laying down this card along with a Big Gun of a Trampler

Primal Bellow is almost pointless without a big gun trampler, that is at least power 6 before Primal Bellow.  What you need to play this card is a deck that is full of forests, and it need not be forests themselves, but it can be cards that make you search for forests, such as Sylvan Ranger, Kodama's Reach, and/or Cultivate.

***** Vines of Vastwood - One of the Most Powerful Booster Cards

This card is most likely key or close to being key for many Legacy decks that rely on boosting cards.  Playing mono green, or even a two color infect deck?  Then, this card comes with my highest recommendation.  However, don't play it unless you can kick it.

*** Fyndhorn Elder - Not Quite As Good As Joraga Treespeaker in Legacy Format, But Great For Commander

As the title says, this card is not dated if you are playing Commander format, as it is great with Elf and mana acceleration combos.  However, if you are playing Legacy, I would recommend Joraga Treespeaker for Elf and mana combos.  Joraga Treespeaker offers more options, than Fyndhorn Elder, such as being able to be played for a single mana on the first turn and leveled up by turn 2.

**** Elvish Herder - Got Trample?

Green creatures often have trample, but if you are playing a deck where you could use a well's worth of low cost trample, then look no further.  Elvish Herder is the card to look for.  Cards that Elvish Herder work especially well with are Omnath, Dungrove Elder, and Timbermaw Larva.  Also, this card plays the innocuous role.  Boost it with  Gigantiform, Gigantomancer, trample, and all that good stuff.  Coming from nowhere you can slam your opponent from the top rope!
Also, it is an Elf, so don't forget that you can include this one in oodles of Elf combos.

2nd Legacy Deck: Mono Green Version 1.1

This deck is updated at the following website:
http://craig-hamilton-mtg.blogspot.com/2013/04/2nd-legacy-deck-mono-green-10_27.html
This deck is not nearly as competitive as my Legacy Infect deck, but it is still a very good deck.
Creatures

2 Arbor Elf
1 Boreal Druid
1 Joraga Treespeaker

Sorcery
2 Cultivate (both Cultivate and Kodama’s reach would work well in a side board)

Discussion:
When I first started this deck, I am not sure if it was because the competition was not as good, but however, this deck in comparison to its earlier incarnations relies a lot on cards that have fairly low casting costs for a green Commander Deck.  The most expensive creature car cast cost is Eldrazi Conscription, clocking in at 8 mana.  I have gotten rid of several cards that require 8 mana or more, such as Gigantomancer, and Kozilek, Butcher of Truth, and Terastodon.  Depending on how play goes I may bring one or 2 back, but however there once was a time where I was hoping to play cards like It That Betray's and that like most of the others are not coming back at least for no other reason than that it was stolen out of my house.  Likewise, I have also gotten rid of the Elvish Piper because I have no use for it now that I have trimmed my deck down to size, meaning that it no longer has creatures so huge and fat.  Go figure, because when my weight went up, the size of my creatures came down.

The Best Colorless Mana Accelerator I Know Of

I have had Palladium Myr in my Commander deck going back to when I first pulled one from a pack.  At the time, I had been working on my Silvos, Rogue Elemental deck (back when it used to be called EDH and not Commander format), and mana acceleration was on my mind.  There are few cards that can match offering 2 colorless or even colored mana for a casting cost of 3 mana.  I have this one in my deck along with Greenweaver Druid, with cast cost 2 colorless and a G, and it returns 2 green mana.   Fyndhorn Elder is also essentially identical to Greenweaver Druid, and thus like Palladium Myr.  The only detraction I see for Palladium Myr from the vantage point of my Commander, Silvos, Rogue Elemental is that he isn't an Elf, and thus Palladium Myr doesn't really fit with another 5 star card like Priest of Titania.

Spring Is A Go – A Poem

Spring is a go

Sing as we plow with our hoe

Scattering seeds of life

For back break harvest strife

Baseball games are ah playin’

My mood is a’ liftin,’  I am just sayin’

And, in all that we do

Spring has sprung through and through

** Unnatural Predation – I Know What You Are Thinking; Your Want To Trample Your Opponent, But…

Trample is a very effect way of eliminating your opponent. That is not what is in question. However, this card is a weak card because it only gives you +1/+1 for 1 card. So, don’t go with this card. Go with a card like Elvish Herder and give multiple cards trample, at the cost of 1 mana apiece.

***Deadly Recluse – If You Play This Card Well Chances Are Your Opponent Sacrifices Big

One thing I like about this card is that it has reach. It gets rid of that fly over bull, while it can also stop something on the ground if necessary. It only costs 2 mana, so it won’t break your mana piggy bank.

**** Joraga Treespeaker – If I Pull This Card With 2 Other Mana I Keep

Some cards, such as Llanowar Elves, Arbor Elf, and Fyndhorn Elves if you pull just one mana, then you can keep, but this one only costs one mana, but just to be safe, mulligan it if you don’t have two other mana. However, if you do have 2 mana, Joraga Treespeaker is an awesome way to get your game on early. The advantage to this card is precisely that it can be put at level 1, where it taps for 2 mana, on your second turn. That is nothing to sneeze about. Because by turn 3 you will have 4 or more mana, and that is the way green gets ahead, through mana growth, such that you will destroy your opponent before he or she even gets to make a move.

**** Kodama’s Reach – Kodama’s Reach Is Essentially Cultivate and Vise Versa

A good formula that you may consider as far as mana acceleration is concerned is that paying 3 mana should at least give acceleration equal to two mana. Thus, this card makes the mark, and there are a few others like Cultivate, Fyndhorn Elder, and Joraga Treespeaker that all do the trick. Thus, I would rate all these cards highly. One added advantage to this card is that you can get a double landfall, which works excellent with Baloth Woodcrusher. Thus, in my opinion there are better choices than cards such as Quirion Elves, Wirewood Elf, and Leaf Guilder, all of which cost 2 mana for a return of 1 mana as an activated ability. If it is mana you want, go with Joraga Treespeaker, Fyndhorn Elves, Llanowar Elves, this card, or Fyndhorn Elder, etc.

**** Cultivate – Cultivate Is Essentially Kodama’s Reach and Vise Versa

A good formula that you may consider as far as mana acceleration is concerned is that paying 3 mana should at least give acceleration equal to two mana. Thus, this card makes the mark, and there are a few others like Kodama’s Reach, Fyndhorn Elder, and Joraga Treespeaker that all do the trick.

**** Boreal Druid – When It Comes To Green I Like To Sneak Attack

This apparently harmless card if properly equipped with something like Gigantiform can become a hellish tormentor of doom to one of your opponents. If you get this one, then be sure to beef if with something in the late game, as you opponent will probably leave it alone all the while it is working behind the scenes adding mana for your every play. Green is the mana acceleration color. Pay 1 for 1 acceleration with this card. It is a very good deal.

**** Ambush Viper – Your Opponent Won’t Expect Flash Destruction If You Are Playing Mono-Green

And, with one strike of the Viper, suddenly your opponent will be cut down to size. That is because Ambush Viper has flash and deathtouch, not to mention that this Viper only costs 2 mana to play. That is a bargain mana cost. Though I have to admit, if someone is attacking with trample, deathtouch isn’t much use. However, I’d take that bet and guess that Ambush Viper if properly played will unwittingly poison the blood of one of your opponents larger creatures.

**** Arbor Elf – Another Fairly Innocuous Card That Can Be Turned Into a Slammer

With my Sylvan Ranger review, I suggested playing it with Gigantiform. This would be another card that words well with Gigantiform. I’ll also state that you may think of using this one with Gigantomancer, but chances are you won’t get Gigantomancer out, or even if you do it is just a 1/1 and is easily dealt with. Green is the mana acceleration color. Pay 1 for 1 acceleration with this card. It is a very good deal.

**** Dungrove Elder – One Heck of a Bad Ass Card for Just 3 Mana to Cast

If you are playing mono-green, and especially with a few extra mana in your deck this card works wonders. It just keeps getting bigger. It’s one of those cards that if your opponent is smart, then he or she will try to stop it before it multiplies. Stab, hack, slash and kill your opponents while they can’t even get to you because this baby has hexproof. Some cards you might want to consider playing in a deck with Dungrove Elder are Elvish Herder, Cultivate, and Kodama’s Reach.

**** Sylvan Ranger – Some Cards Cost 2 And Add 1 Mana As An Activated Ability, But This Is Better

I really like Sylvan Ranger. She seems innocuous, but really she isn’t. There are several cards out there that will add 1 mana that cost two mana, usually a green and a colorless, but the problem with these cards is that they are vulnerable. In the case of Sylvan Ranger, you separate these abilities into two cards. One is a separate land card. The other is Sylvan Ranger herself. Sylvan Ranger herself is zero threat to your opponent, such that he or she probably won’t bother with this creature. However, the secret to this card is combining it with something like Primal Bellow and/or Gigantiform.

**** Thrun, the Last Troll - Better Than Average, But There Is Nothing Earth Shaking About Thrun

4.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Average, But There Is Nothing Earth Shaking About Thrun, February 23, 2013 By Craig Nelson Hamilton "Craig Nelson Hamilton" (Sandwich, MA) - See all my reviews = Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars This review is from: Magic: the Gathering - Thrun, the Last Troll - Mirrodin Besieged First, Thrun can't be countered. However, Thrun really isn't a good enough card that anyone should think to counter him anyway. At least in that way, I would say he is borderline good enough that someone would think about countering him, but obviously such thoughts are futile, as the cards says he can't be countered. The hexproof and the regenerate that he has is pretty cool. I do believe that Thrun makes for being a good Commander. He is one of the cards like Silvos, Rogue Elemental, as a Commander that is excellent for wailing damage on an opponent. I do believe Silvos is better, especially since he costs 1 less mana to regenerate and that he is larger, and that he comes action packed, as a large creature with trample. Despite that, Thrun is very good for going into stealth mode, and going in undercover when mounting an attack on an opponent. Also, Thrun is very similar to Cudgel Troll, and neither card is necessarily better than the other. Both are very good defensive cards, both having regenerate. That Cudgel costs only 1 to regenerate, while Thrun costs 2 is one way Cudgel is better, but that Thrun has hexproof and can't be countered is to his credit.

1st Legacy Deck 4.1 Infect/Poison

1/2/2013 last update The Original Title Was: A Fairly Casual Poison Legacy Deck That Doubles as a Poison Pauper Deck The Legacy Deck Is as Follows:

Land: 22
4 Inkmoth Nexus
4 Breeding Pool
2 Verdant Catacombs
2 Watery Grave
1 Guilt-leaf Palace
1 Darkslick Shores
6 Forests
1 Island
1 Swamp

Green Cards: 24
4 Mutagenic Growth
4 Giant Growth
4 Groundswell
4 Rancor
4 Invigorate
4 Glistener Elf
4 Blight Mamba

Blue Cards: 4 In Legacy
4 Blighted Agent

Black Cards: 6 In Legacy
4 Plague Stinger
2 Virulent Swipe

Note1: Having 4 Melira, Sylvok Outcast is a good idea for a sideboard, especially since via the law of Legendary Creatures, one destroys another, such that if your opponent is playing poison, then you will have some really good defense.

Note2: Having more forests increases the likelyhood of pulling one such that you are able to play Invigorate.

1st Mono Green Pauper Infect Deck 3.1

The reason for this update is that when I played against a Red deck, an opponent of mine was able to make mince meat out of my creatures with kill spells because they were practically all 1 toughness.  Also, as fate would have it, I wasn’t pulling my Cystbearer, Blight Widow, and Blight Mamba cards as much as I would have liked to.  This should help fix that.

Also, another way this deck is optimized is that it is designed to win at a later turn date than before when I was trying for the kill on turn three.  That is, I figure if I put some more beef into my deck, it may be less easy to deal with in the long run.

Creature Cards (20, 18 With Infect)
4             4 Ichorclaw Myr

***** Rancor - This Card Is Good Enough Even For Legacy Format

= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: Magic: the Gathering - Rancor (185) - Magic 2013
I just bought 4 of these for my pauper deck. This card is so good that I hope it doesn't get banned in Pauper format. I also use this card in my Legacy Infect deck, where I run 4 of them. That this card comes back to your hand makes it indisposable. Trample is better than making a creature have flying. Trample enchantments are usually awesome, and that is especially the case with Rancor.

Want to win on your second turn with an Infect deck? Get 4 of these for your deck and help make your dreams of domination come true. This card is nearly impossible to beat with Glistener Elf and other Infect cards that cost 2 mana to cast.

***** Glistener Elf - Essential for My Poison Legacy Deck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for My Poison Legacy Deck.
This review is from: Magic: the Gathering - Glistener Elf - New Phyrexia
The main reason why I love this card is that I can play it on turn one. That means by turn 2 or turn 3 I am thinking about taking my opponent out of the game. I don't recommend a 2nd turn kill because it puts all of your might into one blast, and if that is countered by your 3rd or 4th turn your attack may not be sufficient to win the game. However, if you want to clean up your opponent quick, which is the best idea in Legacy, this card is essential.

***** Essential for My Legacy Infect Deck: Magic: the Gathering - Mutagenic Growth - New Phyrexia

Magic: the Gathering - Mutagenic Growth - New Phyrexia

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential For My Infect Legacy Deck
The conversion for this card if you are playing an infect deck is that you may take 2 damage in order to play it. For adding 2 poison counters in return for playing this card is nothing, provided that you already have a card like Distortion Strike, Rancor, Plague Stinger (that you are flying over your opponent), or especially Blighted Agent.

*** Magic: the Gathering - Titanic Growth - Magic 2012

Magic: the Gathering - Titanic Growth - Magic 2012

3.0 out of 5 stars There Once Was A Time Where I Was Very Attracted To This Card.,
This card just isn't a winner. Giant Growth is one to consider that is much better. With Giant Growth, you pay 1G and get +3/+3. Consider Giant Growth for an Infect deck, but with Titanic Growth for an entire extra mana, you don't get much more out of it. That makes this card one that does not deserve much attention.

**** Magic: the Gathering - Llanowar Elves - Magic 2012

Magic: the Gathering - Llanowar Elves - Magic 2012

4.0 out of 5 stars A Really Good Card, Especially in Commander.January 19, 2013

There are so many times having an Elf that taps for one mana and costs one mana is useful. This card is a force to be reckoned with because it really isn't worth countering, and yet it works well in so many combination plays. Llanowar Elves was one of the first cards I had in my possession and it is still one of my favorites. If you are playing Commander, other cards to consider that are like this one are Boreal Druid, and Fyndhorn Elves.

** Huge and Okay: Magic: the Gathering - Engulfing Slagwurm - Scars of Mirrodin

Magic: the Gathering - Engulfing Slagwurm - Scars of Mirrodin

3.0 out of 5 stars Huge and Okay.January 19, 2013
In my opinion, most huge cards aren't idyllic. There are better cards to consider than this one if you are considering a combo play with Elvish Piper. If you are looking for a card that can destroy, then I think playing one that costs few or 1 mana and has deathtouch is an ideal replacement for this one.
